Revelation

What has your attention today?

If you are anything like me, you have multiple things running through your mind constantly. I am an analytical thinker. I exhaust some of my loved ones with all the questions I throw out during conversations, because I value having full understanding. 😊 That’s just how I’m wired. I do the same thing with the Lord. I ask so many questions because I don’t want to miss a single thing.

There are probably some things I could learn here about relationships and talking too much…

Anyhow, I have had some repeated patterns of thought over the past few months and they have grabbed my attention. I wake up in the morning thinking about them and questioning what direction I should take. These are things that I am seeking the Lord about.

Here’s what’s interesting – He continues to remind me of what I’ve already heard from Him. That sheds light on something for me. Why do I keep seeking to hear something new? Have I done what He already said? He is not likely to say something new to me until I do what He has already told me to do.

When you and I hear the word of God and gain fresh revelation, it is imperative that we act on it. Without acting on the word we have heard, we don’t really know that word. James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”. Notice the deception is this – we think we know something just because we have heard it. We deceive ourselves in this – we can’t even blame the enemy for the deception. Real Bible knowledge (which is to know something by experience) comes when we put it into practice. You and I don’t really know the word we don’t do. We only know the word we do. The Lord can reveal more to us when we value what He’s already revealed to us by walking in it.

Colossians 2:6-7 in the Message Bible says, “My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving”.

Have you ever been on a walk in the woods where the trees or landscape obscured the sun? When you see the light breaking through the trees and keep walking in that direction, the light gets brighter. But if you stay in the shadows you don’t benefit from the light.

I am a lifelong learner. I will admit it is both my superpower and my weakness. The superpower is that I am always seeking, learning, applying new techniques, and accomplishing various things. It feeds my appetite to pursue the things of God and go after it to achieve all He wants me to be and do. The weakness is this – I can get stuck learning and hearing and hearing some more because I must keep feeding the desire to hear something new. At that point, what I’ve heard is simply information without power. The power or change doesn’t come until it is acted upon.

Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it!

I have heard it said confusion is the result of considering too many options or you could say voices. 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace”…

Are you considering all the questions and clarity you need today? Has the Lord already given you a word? As I have acted upon the word, He’s already given me I’ve found the noise of the questions of “what should I do”, “what direction should I take” have quieted. In doing what I know to do, peace is there.

This has my attention today – to be a doer of what I already know to do. I am expecting more light with each step.
