If you are anything like me, you have multiple things running through your mind constantly. I am an analytical thinker. I exhaust some of my loved ones with all the questions I throw out during conversations, because I value having full understanding. đ Thatâs just how Iâm wired. I do the same thing with the Lord. I ask so many questions because I donât want to miss a single thing.
There are probably some things I could learn here about relationships and talking too muchâŚ
Anyhow, I have had some repeated patterns of thought over the past few months and they have grabbed my attention. I wake up in the morning thinking about them and questioning what direction I should take. These are things that I am seeking the Lord about.
Hereâs whatâs interesting â He continues to remind me of what Iâve already heard from Him. That sheds light on something for me. Why do I keep seeking to hear something new? Have I done what He already said? He is not likely to say something new to me until I do what He has already told me to do.
When you and I hear the word of God and gain fresh revelation, it is imperative that we act on it. Without acting on the word we have heard, we donât really know that word. James 1:22 says, âBut be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselvesâ. Notice the deception is this â we think we know something just because we have heard it. We deceive ourselves in this â we canât even blame the enemy for the deception. Real Bible knowledge (which is to know something by experience) comes when we put it into practice. You and I donât really know the word we donât do. We only know the word we do. The Lord can reveal more to us when we value what He’s already revealed to us by walking in it.
Colossians 2:6-7 in the Message Bible says, âMy counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what youâve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. Youâre deeply rooted in him. Youâre well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what youâve been taught. Schoolâs out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgivingâ.
Have you ever been on a walk in the woods where the trees or landscape obscured the sun? When you see the light breaking through the trees and keep walking in that direction, the light gets brighter. But if you stay in the shadows you donât benefit from the light.
I am a lifelong learner. I will admit it is both my superpower and my weakness. The superpower is that I am always seeking, learning, applying new techniques, and accomplishing various things. It feeds my appetite to pursue the things of God and go after it to achieve all He wants me to be and do. The weakness is this â I can get stuck learning and hearing and hearing some more because I must keep feeding the desire to hear something new. At that point, what Iâve heard is simply information without power. The power or change doesnât come until it is acted upon.
Now do what youâve been taught. Schoolâs out; quit studying the subject and start living it!
I have heard it said confusion is the result of considering too many options or you could say voices. 1 Corinthians 14:33 âFor God is not the author of confusion but of peaceâ…
Are you considering all the questions and clarity you need today? Has the Lord already given you a word? As I have acted upon the word, Heâs already given me Iâve found the noise of the questions of âwhat should I doâ, âwhat direction should I takeâ have quieted. In doing what I know to do, peace is there.
This has my attention today â to be a doer of what I already know to do. I am expecting more light with each step.
