Revelation

The Creator

I received a new Bible for Christmas. I love opening and turning the pages of a fresh, new Bible. It’s like reading it again for the first time. There is so much revelation to be uncovered and explored. The scriptures are just waiting to be underlined and commented on as I make notes in the margin while I gain fresh insight from the Lord. It is such a delight!

As I was reading in Genesis chapter one I didn’t get farther than the first verse when I saw something. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God was here from the beginning. He is not a created being. He has always been in existence. He can span time because He created it. He has always been, before time began.

The first thing we see God doing in the first verse of scripture is creating. In the beginning God created…  I like to look up the definition of words in scripture and explore their meanings, looking up the synonyms and antonyms too. It enlightens my understanding of the verses. Here are some synonyms I discovered for the word create: Author, imagine, perform, bring into existence, bring to pass, cause to be dreamed up, give birth to, give life to. Doesn’t this list paint quite a picture of what God was doing when He created the heavens and the earth?

I started thinking about how this came to be. God saw something on the inside. He had an image of the trees, flowers, birds, beasts (beef!), light, land, and sea. Then He said what He saw. Then, the words He said created the things He saw. They came into existence! Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. The things which we now see with our physical eyes (earth, stars, atmospheric heavens) were made by the word of God, which when spoken by faith, is substance that creates life.

In the book of Romans, speaking of Abraham, we see this same pattern. Romans 4:17 (as it is written, I have made you a father of many nations) in the presence of Him whom he believed – God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. God saw something in Abraham. Something that did not exist in the natural, yet. God always looks in the spiritual realm. He saw who He created Abraham to be – a father of many nations. Then He said what He saw. Abraham then believed what God said (despite natural realities of his age and his wife’s barren womb) and he became what God said (see Genesis chapters 15-21).

It started with what the Lord saw. He took the time to look and see something that He wanted to create. What does the Lord want to create in you? What does He see in you? What vision does He want to give you for your family, your future, your ministry, your job, your school, your body, your home, your prosperity, your church, your nation? Do we take the time to look inside and see something that we can’t yet see on the outside? Do we take the time to ask the Lord what He sees about our upcoming year, or our current situation? Do we take the time to imagine a future and life full of a close and thriving relationship with Jesus? It all starts with what we can see.

If using your imagination for anything good is difficult, I would challenge you with this. We all live in the imagination arena daily. Many people worry about the future, rehearse a negative conversation that has not happened yet, or picture a negative end to a bad report. That all requires imagination – a picture on the inside that causes you to imagine a certain outcome. You and I can use our imagination for change. Start today with closing your eyes and asking the Lord to show you something He wants you to see on the inside. You don’t have to put any parameters on this question. Are you ready? Go ahead, ask Him.

What can you see? What did He show you?

Write it down.

After the Lord saw something, He said what He saw. He saw light, then He said “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:3). When the Lord created the earth that we live in, He had an image on the inside and spoke it into existence. He believed in His words. It manifested into the beautiful creation we live in today.

What word do you have from the Lord that will create your future? I’ll rattle off some below that are a few of my favorites that I have adapted as confessions, but you take the time to look up the ones that resonate with you. Put your name in the verses, see yourself having them, doing them, being them. Make the scriptures personal to you. See them as your reality, on the inside. Rehearse the scriptures that breathe life into your future, your body, your marriage, your mind, your self-image, your well-being. Meditate on them. Think about and say it again, and again, and again until it gets bigger in you and gives birth to the reality of it. Don’t just go through the motions of saying it by rote. Connect your heart with the vision, then say it out loud.

Do you remember that list of synonyms for create – author, imagine, perform, bring into existence, bring to pass, cause to be dreamed up, give birth to, give life to?  Well, this is what God did, and this is what we do when we put His word in our heart and mouth.

I hope these scriptures will paint a picture in you that ignites your faith to explore more.

  1. This is such perfect timing from the Lord. I woke up this morning with Ephesians 3:20 on my heart and I started to use my imagination to see details of what I want my future to look like.
We are so creative because He is creative!
